Restaurant photography involves both interior and exterior photography. It is therefore important to take into account the different elements that will create the framing, as this helps to capture the scale of the room, the lighting, etc.
When shooting this kind of image, different types of staging are recreated in the space being photographed. Every detail of each shot is carefully arranged so that breakfasts, lunches and dinners can all be photographed, while all the various areas of the restaurant are also captured so that it can be seen in full.
Natural light is used whenever possible, supported by fill light for darker spaces. To work with ideal lighting, Roger Méndez studies the best time of day for his photographs in advance of the shoot, based on the restaurant’s location.
This type of photography also involves detail shots: the breakfast buffet, a table dressed for dinner, showcooking, etc.
